I have only been able to work/play with the camera for a few hours, but these are my experiences so far.1. This was my first experience ordering from Beach Camera, through Amazon. Was a little concerned at first when product didn't ship for a couple of days, but when they did ship, it must have been shipped two day priority, because it arrived halfway across the country by Saturday. Package arrived in perfect shape and sealed in factory condition. So far, impressed by Beach Camera and their service. 2. Camera is physically much smaller than I expected. It feels about the same size of a can of soda laying on it's side. Very nice! My last video camera was a Panasonic mini dv. It does NOT have a EVF.While it has its own internal memory, it also incorporates a SD slot for additional memory. Unlike Canon, the camcorder does not automatically continue recording onto the SD card once internal memory is full. You must stop recording and go into the MENU to direct the camcorder to now record on the SD card. Finally, caution to those that shoot outdoors most often... Sony has decided to place the MIC PICKUPS just below the lens on the very front of the camera. That means WIND! LOTS OF WIND or BREEZE. The CCD imager is 5.43 MegaPixels per the Sony spec sheet. Sony is using the equivalent of "digital zoom" to magnify a 5MP image and therefore make the JPG image files larger.In the previous generation of Sony HD handicam products, Sony was claiming a still picture quality that's 2X the actual number of pixels (see CX160). In this generation, they're magnifying the image by 4X and are now claiming a still picture quality that's 4X that of the CCD imager. Obviously a larger blurry photo is not as good as a real 20 MegaPixel image. |
